British Photography Awards Ambassador

British Photography Awards Ambassador

At the beginning of February this year, I was invited to join a new scheme to help raise awareness for the charitable work the British Photography Awards does, as well as helping to raise the profile of emerging photographic artists in the UK.

The BPA is a charity-oriented local photography prize covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. You don’t have to be a resident to compete, simply to have captured an image in the UK.   There are 10 categories that range from wildlife and landscapes to street and portrait photography, UK-based industry judges and a wide variety of charities on board!

The prizes scale over the course of the year, but there are already (at the time of writing) £10,000 of prizes to be won, plus non-cash awards. Half of the money goes to charity, and the other half to maintaining the competition (prizes, hosting, storage etc). Nobody is taking a salary from the venture, and it is designed to be completely self-sustaining!

As an ambassador for the awards, I help promote the awards and to moderate their official portrait photography Facebook group which, if you are interested in portrait photography, you are welcome to join me there, no matter your level of ability.

It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow photographers with a passion for headshots and portraiture, one I’m looking forward to develop of the course of the following year.  If you are interested in becoming an ambassador for the awards then you can find out more on their dedicated webpage here.
