I have been shooting headshots for actors, performers and presenters for around 10 years and throughout that time have met a lot of up and coming talent. Each person I have photographed has been unique in their abilities, styling and looks but one thing that I have found to unite a lot of my clients is the constant financial pressure they are under to get themselves “seen”. That is why we created The Headshot Fund and I thought I would take a few minutes to describe what it is and why we are doing it.
What is The Headshot Fund?
We know that there are several organisations that provide grants or sponsorship for small theatres and production companies, however demand is high and the amount of money available to applicants is low. At the point of introducing the headshot fund we were not aware of any localised funding for up and coming talent.
Funding is important, often we hear stories from incredibly passionate and talented individuals who simply can not afford classes, showreels or headshots. Funding provides a momentary release from the financial burden these individuals experience, allowing them the opportunity to advance their career a little further.
The Headshot Fund is a pot of money that we allocate from client fees, each month we ask for nominee’s to be considered for the funding. Currently we are able to offer headshot sessions but we hope that together with our partners, extend this to include, acting / singing classes, workshop placements, showreel production, CV writing and social media training.
Who could benefit from free headshots
Place yourself in a position where you have come to acting late on in your life, you have a full time job which supports you and your family. Yet with this new found passion comes increasing pressure to join an acting school or an agency, each with their own fee’s and requirements for entry, such as headshots. It’s incredibly difficult for you to decided where to start, if one of those obstacles which require a financial commitment is removed, imagine the difference it would make.
That’s just one instance where The Headshot Fund would make a difference but absolutely anyone could benefit, young, old, experienced, first timer, actor, singer, presenter – if there is some way of being supported without the stress of financial burden then thats got to be a good thing right?
Who do you know that could benefit from such a fund? We are taking nominations right now, speaking to nominees to find out about their story, so don’t hesitate, head over to our dedicated webpage for a full break down of how The Headshot Fund works and nominate a friend, family member or colleague today!
